Fun and easy thing I’m enjoying painting with watercolor

I started at the top of the page with a light, bright color and a brush with more water than pigment,

then added another color and more water,

and another color and more water, all the way down the page, til I got to the bottom.

Then I painted the facing page in my book.

Watercolor painting. Watercolor painting. Wide sections of color from one color listed to the other; the paper is vertical. You can see a lot of movement between colors because of the water. Yellow raw ochre, cinerious, burnt sienna, ultramarine turquoise, ultramarine, indigo, potters pink, goethite, mars black

This one turned out more like a landscape than the others, with sky and mountains at the top, Amiata sienna (monte amiata natural sienna), ultramarine turquoise, burnt sienna, olive (qor), sap, mars black, goethite

It’s a quick and easy, fun thing to paint, and it’s also a great way to try out color schemes.

If you’re not so focused on the technique of what you’re painting, then you can hone the skills of something else, like color study.

And if you’re a beginner to watercolor, this would be a great way to learn water control, to play with the paint and see what the colors do.

Knowing what to do and how to do it comes with practice in watercolor, and this is a great practice.

It’s also relaxing, therapeutic, and fun!

Watercolor painting. Wide sections of color from one color listed to the other; the paper is vertical. This one is overall lighter and more pastel and magical that the others. It has soft sunset colors. Potters pink, cinereous, quin pink, goethite, burnt umber, yellow raw ochre, mars black (top to bottom, some mixing on paper between colors)

Ps. If you’re someone who is practicing drawing, you could use this idea and make backgrounds, and draw silhouette trees or something over it; you could end up with a cool sunset when you’re done.

Watercolor painting. Vertical landscape with green trees in the middle. This one turned into more of a landscape than the others because I used the point of my quill to get tree tops. The top is a soft blue sky and the bottom is burnt umber rocks.

Hope you have fun painting something in this style!
